The Changing Face of Usability Testing

Posted by: vishaljuneja on: April 7, 2009

Read this article on “The Changing Face of Usability Testing” on Usability News (www.usabilitynews.com/news/article5564.asp), which talks about this New Zealand based company called Optimal Workshop, offering free software that replaces usability consultant in the field of UT.

Is it really possible to replace usability consultant?

In a field where u really need to probe ur user, to get the information, which can transform the success path of ur site, do u really think a software can achieve that?

I have my share of doubts on it, whats ur point of view?

W3C Site Redisigned

Posted by: vishaljuneja on: April 7, 2009

On 20 March, W3C announced a redesign of key pages of its Web site.

The beta version of the site is avialable at http://beta.w3.org/, you can also take a video tour of beta site.

It definitely looks professional and well designed (better than the current), but I felt finding links is much easier in the current one. For instance, HTML Validator was right up there in left navigation under “W3C A to Z”. This in the new version has been moved below the fold under “Services and Software”. Guess, this happens when the IA of site is updated.

Fresh Start

Posted by: vishaljuneja on: March 15, 2009

I’ve been a wordpress fan since the time it was first introduced to me by one of my friend about 3 years back. He even gave me a free domain (vishal.designer.org.in), my first ever blog site. At first, I didn’t know what to do with it, as I wasn’t into writing and stuff, u know what I mean, was one of those “Web Designers”, who would keep their hard drives (read brains) free from writing copy and wud prefer using Lorum Ipsum for their concepts.

But I guess sooner or later, a designer really needs to start writing, especially with this web 2.0 blogging stuff, where every designer can reach out to every other designer out there, and show what they can or can’t do. So, that’s when I realized that this is a good opportunity, to share my thoughts and experiences, get feedback and see where I stand.

I wrote couple of articles on Usability, Designs, How to make best use of CSS, incorporated couple of interesting YouTube videos, and before I could realize how good or bad my articles were, visitors were pouring in from all around the world. Infact I also added an article on WordPress Usability, I thought they needed to look into their “Edit Post” page structure. All was well, before my friend, who gave me this platform, pinged me on gtalk to bomb me with this news that his domain (designer.org.in), has been blocked. And the next thing I knew, I had lost my blog with all my articles, and all my hard work of 3 years of putting the whole blog together.

It took me a week to get over with this huge loss and Start Fresh.
